French Exam and Certification Preparation FAQ

Answers to common questions about TEF, TCF, DELF and DALF preparation

Do you prepare students for TEF Canada?

Yes. I help TEF Canada candidates prepare for the speaking and writing sections through mock tasks, structured practice, correction, exam strategy and personalized feedback.

We work on clarity, interaction, argumentation, vocabulary, grammar, timing and the ability to answer under test conditions.

Do you prepare students for TCF Canada?

Yes. I offer TCF Canada preparation, especially for oral and written production.

We work on structure, clarity, vocabulary, grammar, timing and the expectations of the certification. The goal is not only to speak or write in French, but to produce answers that match the format and requirements of the test.

What French level is required for immigration to Canada?

The required French level depends on the immigration program you are applying for. The table below gives a simplified overview of common pathways outside Quebec.

Immigration pathway Final objective Common French requirement Job offer Geographic focus
Express Entry Permanent residence Often NCLC 7 in the 4 skills for French-language proficiency or some skilled worker profiles, but requirements vary by program

Not always required Outside Quebec
Francophone Mobility Work permit NCLC 5 or higher in speaking and listening

Required Outside Quebec
Provincial Nominee Programs Permanent residence Often between NCLC 4 and NCLC 7, depending on the province and stream Often required, but not always Specific province or territory
Quebec Skilled Worker / PSTQ Permanent residence via Quebec selection + federal PR application Depends on the stream: often oral level 7 + written level 5, or oral level 5, on the Quebec scale Not always required Quebec

For Express Entry, French is assessed through the NCLC scale. The French-language proficiency category requires a minimum score of NCLC 7 in all four language abilities, while other Express Entry programs may have different language requirements depending on occupation, profile and eligibility criteria.

For Francophone Mobility, the objective is different: it is a work permit pathway for French-speaking foreign workers who want to live and work outside Quebec. The French requirement is focused on oral skills: speaking and listening at NCLC 5 or higher, and the Canadian employer must submit an offer of employment before the application.

For Provincial Nominee Programs, the requirements depend on the province or territory and the specific stream. Canada states that applicants must check both the eligibility requirements of the province or territory and, when applicable, the Express Entry program they are applying through.

Please note that I do not provide legal or immigration advice. My role is to help you prepare for the French language test or certification itself, such as TEF Canada or TCF Canada. You should always check the official requirements for your immigration program before booking your test.

What French level is required for French nationality or immigration to France?

For French nationality, the required level is currently B2 in oral and written French. TEF and TCF attestations can be accepted if they meet the official requirements and are recent enough.

For some residence permits in France, the required level may be different. Since 1 January 2026, some first multi-year residence permits require A2, while some first resident cards require B1, with exceptions depending on the situation.

Because administrative rules can change and depend on individual circumstances, you should always check the official requirements for your own situation. My role is to prepare you for the French language test or certification, not to provide legal advice.

Do you help students prepare for French language certifications for French nationality or immigration purposes?

Yes. I can help learners prepare for French language certifications required in administrative or immigration contexts, including French nationality applications, residence permit procedures in France, and immigration to Canada.

Depending on your objective, we can work on TEF, TCF, oral production, written production, listening, reading, test strategy, vocabulary, grammar and mock tasks.

Please note that I do not provide legal or immigration advice. My role is to help you improve your French and prepare for the language certification itself.

Are you certified for TEF, TCF, DELF and DALF?

Yes. I am certified for TEF, TCF, DELF and DALF, with 30 years of teaching experience.

I help candidates prepare strategically for speaking and writing tasks through mock exams, correction, feedback, exam methodology, grammar, vocabulary, structure and confidence-building.

Do you prepare students for DELF B1 and DELF B2?

Yes. I prepare learners for DELF B1 and DELF B2, especially speaking and writing.

We work on task structure, argumentation, interaction, vocabulary, grammar, clarity and confidence. I also help students understand what the examiners expect and how to organize their answers more effectively.

Do you prepare students for DALF C1 and DALF C2?

Yes. I prepare advanced learners for DALF C1 and DALF C2.

We can work on oral presentation, argumentation, synthesis, advanced writing, register, nuance, structure and intellectual precision. DALF C1 and DALF C2 requires not only a strong level of French, but also the ability to organize complex ideas clearly and convincingly.

Can you correct my written productions?

Yes. You can send me written productions and receive detailed correction and feedback.

I focus on grammar, vocabulary, structure, register, clarity, coherence and exam strategy. I do not simply correct mistakes: I explain what needs to improve and how to make your writing more effective.

Can we focus only on speaking?

Yes. If your priority is the oral part of the exam or certification, we can focus on speaking practice.

We can work on pronunciation, fluency, interaction, argumentation, answering under pressure, structuring your ideas and practising realistic oral tasks.

Do you offer mock exams?

Yes. I offer mock tasks adapted to your exam, certification and level.

After the task, you receive feedback on what works, what needs improvement and what may be costing you points. Mock practice is especially useful because many candidates lose points not because their French is weak, but because they do not fully understand the format or expectations.

How are your lessons different from general French lessons?

French exam and certification preparation requires a specific method.

In general French lessons, the focus may be broad: conversation, grammar, vocabulary or culture. In certification preparation, we focus on performance under test conditions: understanding instructions, managing time, structuring answers, using appropriate language and avoiding common mistakes.

My goal is to help you use the French you already know more effectively.

Are the lessons online?

Yes. Lessons are available online and can be adapted to your location, time zone, exam date and personal objectives.

The main language of instruction is French. When clarification is useful, I can also use Spanish, Italian, Dutch or English.

Do you give homework or independent work?

Yes. I always give independent work between lessons.

One hour with me is designed to generate several hours of useful personal work: preparation, vocabulary review, written tasks, oral practice, listening activities or exam-style exercises.

I often use elements of the flipped classroom approach, so that lesson time can be used for correction, feedback, speaking practice and deeper work.
